Collagen - Frequently asked questions

Collagen is a highly purified, naturally occurring protein. It softens and eliminates facial, neck and chest lines, wrinkles, skin depressions and scars. It also gives full, sexy lips. It gives a more youthful, fresher look and is ideal for softening 'lipstick bleed' lines.

Is Collagen safe?

Yes, Collagen has FDA and Dept of Health approval. It has been used safely and effectively to treat over a million men and women for more than 20 years. A Collagen test is required one month prior to the first proposed treatment.

How long does a Collagen treatment take?

About 10 minutes, or longer, depending on the quantity of product necessary to achieve the desired result.

Does it hurt?

Some people find that it is quite tolerable without the need for local anaesthetics. For the lips, however, which are very sensitive, an anaesthetic can be used if there are no contraindications.

Are there any side-effects?

A negative skin test occurs in 97% of the population, and following this there is a 0.1% (extremely rare) chance of an allergic reaction. There will be a small amount of initial swelling and some redness. Both of which will normally disappears within 24 hours. Some people with very fine skin could have a slight bruise. The Cheshire Image Clinic has won one of only four Customer Care Awards ever given by the product manufacturer.

How long will my Collagen last?

This depends very much on the individual. Second and subsequent treatments will correct better and last longer. Age and lifestyle are factors.

Choosing between the dermal fillers is judged by the nurses' experience, the individual's sense of urgency, personal preference, ethical beliefs and cost effectiveness.
