Restylane - Frequently asked questions

A Non-Animal, Stabilized, Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA). Its properties attract water to itself, giving long lasting results.

Is Restylane®/Perlane® safe?

Yes, Restylane®/Perlane® has a long record of success. There have been more than one million treatments carried out in more than 60 countries around the world. It can be used immediately without the need for a skin test.

How does Restylane®/Perlane® work?

After administration the hyaluronic gel binds water to it to produce natural volume which smooths away the wrinkles.

How long does a Restylane®/Perlane® treatment take?

About 10 minutes or longer depending on the quantity of product necessary to achieve the desired result.

Does it hurt?

A local anaesthetic cream can be applied and certainly for the more sensitive areas local anaesthesia is given if there are no contraindications.

Are there any side-effects?

Side effects are rare and if they do occur they are temporary. Allergic reactions are very rare. Common injection related reactions may occur such as swelling redness and tenderness. These resolve spontaneously within 1-2 days, or within a week if lips are treated. Some people with very fine skin could have a slight bruise. The Cheshire Image Clinic nurses administer many treatments per year using Restylane® and Perlane®, which is the first treatment of choice for many of our patients.

What happens next?

The results are immediately visible and look their best approximately two weeks later. An after treatment facial may be beneficial. It is recommended that top-up treatments are received before the effects of the initial treatment have faded totally.

Choosing between the dermal fillers is judged by the nurses' experience, the individual's sense of urgency, personal preference, ethical beliefs and cost effectiveness.
