Botox ®

The MHRA granted a license for cosmetic use of Botox ® in February 2006.

Some people find that there is nothing funny about laughter lines around the eyes. Others may find that when they concentrate closely on something they develop frown lines that make them appear to be cross or unhappy. Also, though you may have earned every one of your worry lines, you might not want the world to see them.

Some people find that there is nothing funny about laughter lines around the eyes. Others may find that when they concentrate closely on something they develop frown lines that make them appear to be cross or unhappy. Also, though you may have earned every one of your worry lines, you might not want the world to see them.

If any or all of the above are true for you than Botox ® injections may be the answer you are looking for. Botox ® injections address dynamic wrinkles caused by emotion. These wrinkles are caused by contraction of the delicate facial muscles every time you laugh, smile, frown or concentrate.

Botox ® blocks impulses from the tiny facial muscles so that they do not contract. The untreated muscles contract in the usual fashion thus allowing normal facial expression.

The treated areas remain smooth and unwrinkled. This is called cosmetic denervation and it is a new use for an approved drug that has been safely utilised for eleven years to treat many neurological and opthalmological disorders.

Botox ® is quickly becoming a very popular, safe treatment for reversing the visible signs of emotional ageing. A very fine needle is inserted precisely though several layers of the face and a small amount of diluted Botox ® is injected.

Local anaesthetic cream may be applied to the areas prior to treatment and the procedure is relatively painless.

Side Effects

Side Effects are very rare: though bruising is the most common. There are others but all possibilities will be explained to you in detail before any treatment takes place.

Botox ® treatments are safe, effective and very quick. The results are not immediately visible but will become apparent within 3-10 days.

Cosmetic denervation using Botox ® can visibly soften and smooth out dynamic wrinkles and give one a youthful, stress free appearance. Some people benefit from a Botox ® / filler mix either for one area of the face or a few areas. Others may require either Botox or filler and it is the priority of your very experienced practitioner to ensure that you are advised correctly.

Is BOTOX ® safe?
Yes. BOTOX ® has gained a license for cosmetic use. It also has other medical uses, for instance it is one of the few treatments that can be given to treat children over two years of age to treat Cerebral Palsy – BOTOX ® helps them to walk!

How does Botox ® work?
Botox works on the muscles to prevent the”wrinkling” message getting through. The skin then relaxes and the lines just smooth away.

How long does a Botox ® treatment take?
About 15 – 30 minutes. A full consultation will be required and after an assessment the nurse will determine the injection sites to achieve the best results for you.

Does it hurt?
We think it feels like a very small insect bite; although if you are nervous about this aspect a local anaesthetic can easily be applied.

Are there any side-effects?
Side effects are rare and if they do occur they are temporary. There has never been any recorded instance of allergic reaction. There will be a small amount of initial swelling and some redness both of which will disappear within an hour or so. Some people with very fine skin could have a slight bruise. The Cheshire Image Clinic team has a whole wealth of experience in delivering safe, effective treatments. Following three to ten days, when the Botox ® has “kicked in”, we need to see the patient to check the effectiveness of that treatment and judge the dose for the next time.

How long will my Botox ® last?
The result varies from person to person but will last between three to seven months initially. For best results research has shown that three monthly treatments should be given for the first year.

Botox ® is simple, safe, quick, effective and acts as not only a CURE for existing wrinkles but also as a PREVENTATIVE against the formation of further lines. Furthermore. experienced practitioners are now able to offer facial “lifting” as well as line reduction using Botox ®.
